Reading

Ten books you must read before you die; classic works in English literature; the top ten important novels in science fiction and fantasy; a book on the basics of philosophy; the most important self-help books in the twentieth century; titles for beginners in the world of reading. Reading lists are everywhere.

The lists appear to be neutral, mainly serving as gateways to wider and larger worlds, especially for those who consider themselves newcomers to reading. At the very least, they serve as references to sources that can be used to directly build knowledge in a specific field or specialization, without distinguishing between beginners and experts.

However, reading lists are not completely so. They include many assumptions and myths that can lead the reader into stereotyping and limited thinking if they fail to pay attention to them. Moreover, the moment when reading lists are formed is the moment when reading transitions from being an autonomous act to an imposed one, and what a vast difference between the autonomous act and the imposed act.
